How to become IPS Officer

Nationality

Age Limit

  • You need to be a minimum of twenty-one years old.
  • And the maximum age limit for the General A category is 32 years. Exemption for OBC candidates is 35 years, for SC/ST is 37 years and there limit for Handicapped.

Educational Qualification

  • You are supposed to be at least be a Graduate in any field. Basic graduation is compulsory to apply for UPSC Exam.
  • Even students appearing for the final year of graduation can apply for the exam.
  • Even medical students who have taken medical degrees can apply for the exam.
  • CA, CS, ICWA students as well can apply for the exam.
  • Even the students who have completed distance education and correspondence courses can apply for the exam.

Physical Necessities

IPS officer should even have physical necessities as follows-

  • The height of the Men should be 165cm for General Category and, 60cm for the other, and the chest 84cm (Expandable to 5cm).
  • The height of the Women must be 150cm for General Category, 145cm for the other, and the chest 79cm (Expandable to 5cm).

  • A person who has a squint is disqualified from becoming an IPS officer.
  • Myopia should not exceed -4D
  • Shortsightedness should not exceed -4D

 • Listening capability 2000 to 4000 frequency hearing shouldn't exceed thirty decibels.
